Answering Your Most Asked Questions (pt 2)

I really enjoyed the last Q&A blog post I did (here) and decided I would post a pt 2! A few days ago, I asked you over on Instagram to submit any and all questions. I went through them and below I’m answering some of the most commonly asked Q’s!

Q: From start to end how many hours (avg) goes into a video?

A: This really depends on the type of video I’m filming! Usually a normal DIY video with 4-5 projects takes 1-2 days. If painting is involved or something needs to sit overnight, it’s usually a solid 2 days. If I’m doing a room makeover, that can take 3-7 days, just depending on the space and the shape it’s in. If I need to completely repaint a room, that can take 1-2 days. My recent bathroom makeover (linked here) took around 4 days in total!

____

Q: How do you keep up with a filming schedule when you’re in a creative rut?

A: This actually happened to me a few months ago! I was feeling very uninspired and I honestly took a week off. Lately, vintage shopping is so fun for me and every time I’m in a thrift store I always leave with so many project ideas. I want to make the best quality content for my subscribers. If I don’t feel 100% about a project or video idea, I would rather not post vs. putting something out there that I don’t love.

____

Q: Is it even possible to find a couch that is cute, affordable and comfortable?

A: Yes!! Websites like Overtstock.com, Target and even stores like HomeGoods can have great quality pieces that are cute + affordable. You may have to do some digging but I promise it does exist! Also, Facebook Marketplace can have some great options too! My friend recently got a gorgeous CB2 couch for half the price.

____

Q: What neighborhood do you live in? How did you decide on your apartment?

A: I live in Mid City- Los Angeles. I actually was not attracted to this apartment upon viewing it! It had thick popcorn ceilings and floor to ceiling mirrors in all of the bedrooms (It had to be a dance studio or strange 1970's install). My roommate and I hated it and did not plan on moving in. The relator called us and asked what the landlord would need to do for us to move. We drove back that same day, revisited the apartment and asked if they could remove those 2 things. I felt like the apartment did have potential but it was hard to see with all the mirrors and outdated popcorn ceilings. However, the arched doorways, arched window, nooks, original hardwood flooring and fireplace added the right amount of charm to this space.

____

Q: How do I know which size rug will work best in my living room?

A: I get asked this question all the time haha I have an entire blog post dedicated to finding the right rug size for every room- linked here!

____

Q: What is your next step now that your apartment is done?

A: Ah this is such a good question haha I feel like I will be making minor tweaks and maybe swap some of the paint colors. I want to change the green in my bedroom because it’s a bit similar to the green in my bathroom. I’m so excited to be able to enjoy my apartment!!

____

Q: Is there a universal wall color that you can’t go wrong with?

A: Chantilly Lace by Benjamin Moore is my favorite white paint! My entire apartment is painted in that color and I love it. It’s just the perfect shade of white in my opinion.

____

Q: What would you recommend to an interior decorating student/beginner?

A: Have fun and be as creative as possible! Make mood boards, redecorate spaces, keep up with your favorite interior designers and explore vintage/thrift stores. I learned so much while working at West Elm while I was in college, if you need a job try working at your favorite furniture/home decor store. You will learn so much!! Or if you are in the position to intern, send out a few emails to local interior designers asking if you are looking for an intern a few days a week. The more experience the better!

____

Q: What DIY Youtubers inspire you?

A: I watch a bunch of different creators across YouTube! A few of my favorites are Xo, Macenna, The Sorry Girls, Rachel Metz, Alexandra Gater, DIY Danie, Peony & Honey, Studio Mcgee and Jay Munee DIY! I’m surely missing a bunch of amazing creators but watching others is a HUGE love of mine!

____

Q: Tips on picking peel & stick wallpaper?

A: Peel & stick wallpaper can be tricky! I have purchased my fair share of wallpaper that was not high quality, hard to put up or even ripped the paint off the wall. If I’m completely redoing a room, I’ll pick out the main furniture pieces and then search for a wallpaper pattern that enhances the space. Or if you have a print you love, find decor/furniture pieces that compliment it. For example in my kitchen, I loved the lemon wallpaper I found and added a lot of black accents to compliment it. When it comes to assembly, I personally love Society6’s peel & stick wallpaper. The quality is great and it’s very easy to put up.

____

Q: Does your landlord like your apartment updates?

A: Prior to moving into my apartment, I let my landlord know that I made YouTube videos focused around interior design/DIYs etc. He was totally open to letting me make changes and improve the space. He left a lot of the walls bare from the mirrors being taken down knowing that I would be repainting. I have sent him a few of the photos and he loves! He’s an older man and unfortunately can’t walk up the stairs to see the apartment for himself. He lives on the bottom floor and I see him all the time! He’s so nice and I always ask him for permission before I make any permanent changes.

____

Q: Can you do a closet organizational video?

A: I actually did an entire closet makeover video below:

____

Q: Thoughts on adding a rug to carpet floors?

A: I recommend doing this if you live in a rental and can’t change the carpeting! It’s an easy fix.

____

Q: How do you like your couch in your living room?

A: I get asked this question a lot too! I have the Cigar couch from Article and loveee it. It’s very comfortable and fits a lot of people! Perfect for when friends stay the night or when we host game nights!

____

Q: Biggest decor regret?

A: Is it bad to say that I’m not even too sure of myself? I feel like nothing pops in my head when I think of past designs and spaces I have made over! Keep in mind, I've really only made over around 15 spaces over the past 2 years! If I had to choose something, it would be the pink paint we did in Marie’s bathroom or the Navy paint we did in my office nook! Both were immediately changed the following day!

____

Q: Your favorite kitchen item?

A: Probably my copper KitchenAid mixer. I always wanted one when I was younger and it’s like my prized kitchen possession haha I love baking cookies and using it.

____

Q: Favorite interior designers I should follow?

A: I get so much inspiration from some incredible designers on Instagram! A few of my favorites to follow are @eyswoon, @kellywearstler, @kismet_house, @peonyandhoney, @cynthia_harper_, @studiomcgee, @amberinteriors, @maison_trouvaille + @stofferhome.

____

Q: I have a blank canvas space in my new apartment, where do I start?

A: Having a blank canvas space in your home/apartment is so fun and exciting! It can also be extremely overwhelming to know how many options and ways you can decorate it. I have a video on my channel where I show you how to design a room from start to finish, I linked it below!
