Large Sculptural Bird Studio Pottery Jar, USA, 1970's

This studio pottery jar takes the rounded form of a nesting bird, its glazed body built up in bands of olive green, dark brown, and warm ochre. A small leaf shaped tab on the lid gives it a lift point that doubles as a whimsical detail. Taller and more streamlined than its owl companion, it brings the same handmade character in a different silhouette.
