Bisque Speckled Stoneware Teapot, France, 1970s

A large and beautifully made stoneware teapot in a warm speckled beige glaze, its generous globular body raised on a foot and fitted with a domed lid topped by a simple rounded knob finial. The glaze is a pleasing sandy tan with brown speckle throughout, darkening slightly at the rim and handle joins. The piece has a balanced, hand-thrown quality and a confident simplicity of form that places it squarely in the French provincial studio pottery tradition.
